The Unexpected theft
We were traveling to attend a function out station, and our bags were overstuffed with clothes and jewellery. Wanting to have a comfortable journey to the destination and back, we booked first class AC train coaches. The onward journey was quite comfortable, owing to our bubbling excitement. The return journey however left us dazed.
We got into the coaches at the designated time. Pushed our bags underneath the seats and settled down to have our dinners after a little while. A few phoney cleaners came spraying cleaning liquid on the floor and the air, pretending to wipe away the dirt on the floor. It seemed a little unusual, but on enquiring we were given a satisfying answer, hence we dismissed the thought. Made our beds and put ourselves to sleep, and astonishingly we slept like babies that night, not waking up to any jerks or noises.
As we began unpacking on reaching home, we found a few things missing. Initially we panicked, as it was worth a huge sum. We repeatedly tried to revisit the series of incidents that had occurred over the past two days, whacking our brains to recollect whether there was some way that we could have misplaced things.
Made a few calls to our relatives asking them if our belongings were at their places. As I was observing our trolley bags, I noticed a cut on one of the top zippers, inside the bag. It was so perfectly done that on the outside, it was impossible to guess! We joined the dots and that’s when the facts slowly dawned.
The lesson learnt from this whole incident was that one must never take it for granted that the most elite coaches can be safe. It is good to stay alert and attentive while traveling. Also, it is always a good idea to place valuables between layers of clothing, for safe keeping.
