Our editors have written about sustainable brands for a decade. For Earth Day, we\u2019ve compiled some of our favorites leading the charge in eco-consciousness.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Earth Day is here, and what better time of year to take stock of the brands we\u2019re giving our money to and how our consumption is impacting the planet from the moment a product is made to the moment we open the package. Of course, it\u2019s best to buy less and limit our consumption overall, but in reality, we\u2019ll always have to buy some things. Thankfully, these sustainable and eco-conscious brands not only offer eco-conscious and environmentally-friendly products, but they\u2019re also leaders in environmental efforts, from sequestering carbon to innovating new ways to grow cotton that are better for the earth and for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can you tell if a brand is environmentally conscious?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Any brand can claim to be eco-conscious (have you heard of greenwashing<\/a>?), so how can we know if a brand is truly dedicated to sustainability and the environment? First, it\u2019s important to look at the brand\u2019s sustainability certifications \u2014 third-party standards that hold brands accountable \u2014 that verify their claims and ensure that they\u2019re not just talking the talk, but walking the walk, too. There are a lot of them<\/a>, but some certifications to look for include Climate Neutral, Certified B Corporation, and Forest Stewardship Council. Each of these has its own set of standards that companies must follow in order to be certified, and if they meet the rigorous standards, they\u2019re doing something right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But certifications aren\u2019t everything. You can also tell if a brand is environmentally conscious by looking at their transparency about their supply chain, materials, carbon footprint, and how they\u2019re working to ensure that these all keep the environment at top of mind. All of the brands below outline on their websites how they are being mindful about the environment and how they are working to better it, through their materials, giving back, donations, and more. Usually you can find more about their sustainability initiatives in the footer of their website (they might list their certifications there too!), or in some cases, right on the top menu bar of their page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
