Love these ideas, but I agree with another commenter, we should not normalize asking guests to bring $10 to a dinner party, what the heck! Most adult guests know to not come empty handed and will bring a bottle of wine, dessert, flowers etc. Do not ask anyone to bring anything unless it is a potluck or specific theme.

You have some nice ideas but asking guests that YOU invited to your home to bring $10 or a bottle of wine?? Yikes!
Host a gathering that you can afford and if a guest arrives with a hostess gift graciously say, “Thank you. We are so happy you could join us. Welcome to our home.”

What a great read! I love planning gatherings around food and your article gave some wonderful tips. A holiday tea party sounds magnificent. I tend to get caught up in the aesthetics or grandeur of the menu, that I forget to have fun. Breaking out of the traditional model of dinner parties is liberating and mixes things up. You have me brainstorming a sweet and savory pastries theme in the near future.

This was fun to read! I have been enjoying hosting more as Covid regulations have lifteed. Pizza and chat night was fun, and a week ago we did a "Spaghetti tacos & nostaglic iCarly" lunch. Sometimes silly things like that work well for starting points for a little event. :)
