We’ve researched our favorite sustainable jewelry brands for the best aquamarine jewelry pieces—these are our top picks for their quality and timeless design.

Happy birthday to all our March babies! We love the beautiful aquamarine birthstone, a calming and gentle blue that evokes peace and tranquility. Since birthdays between March 1- 20 are Pisces signs, this water-inspired stone feels more than fitting for the perfect gift.

What does aquamarine symbolize?

Aquamarine symbolizes tranquility, serenity, and clarity. It also embodies youthfulness, hope, and everlasting joy. Various cultures believe to instill courage, alleviate stress, and improve communication. Sometimes called the “sailor’s gem”, this beautiful stone is thought to have protected sailors from harsh seas, according to mythological ideas. Its soothing blue-green hue reflects the calming essence of water, making it a favored choice for both jewelry and decorative items.

Gemologists believe aquamarine is blue in color because of the iron in the crystal. It’s found deep in the earth and the majority of sourcing sites today are in Pakistan and Brazil. Because this gem is plentiful, it’s usually quite affordable, and can be found as the standout stone in many jewelry pieces.

Our team has reviewed hundreds of sustainable jewelry brands, and we’ve selected our favorite aquamarine birthstone necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings from the brands below based on eco-friendly production practices, fairly sourced materials, and quality design.

Whether you’re a March baby, love someone who has a birthday in March, or simply love this beautiful bluish-green gem, consider one of these aquamarine birthstone pieces from our favorite ethical and sustainable jewelry brands! And if you’re looking for more gemstone jewelry, read up on our guides for the best amethyst, emerald, and garnet jewelry!

The 10 Comfiest Organic Pajamas Reviewed By Our Editor https://www.thegoodtrade.com/features/best-sustainable-pajamas-sleepwear/ https://www.thegoodtrade.com/features/best-sustainable-pajamas-sleepwear/#comments Wed, 26 Nov 2025 21:45:20 +0000 Our editor snuggled up in these sustainable pajamas. She tested matching PJ sets, robes, dresses, and even a silk eye mask — here's what she thought.

The post The 10 Comfiest Organic Pajamas Reviewed By Our Editor appeared first on The Good Trade.

The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

When I was growing up, my family always got to open a new set of holiday jammies on Christmas Eve. Through the years, I learned which materials and prints tended to only last for a week or two before feeling outdated or falling apart, and which I found myself reaching for again and again all year round.

While the bright, festive prints are hard to resist this time of year, we like to prioritize natural and organic fabrics that are made with care. Whatever we add to the pajama drawer needs to be comfortable and breathable, and able to withstand many washes without losing shape, color, or softness. Is that so much to ask?

Why shop for sustainable and organic pajamas?

It turns out that what we sleep in is just as important as what we sleep on. Synthetic fabrics like rayon, polyester, and acrylic have all been found to contain PFAS, “forever chemicals” that don’t ever break down after being absorbed into our bodies and the earth. These chemicals have been linked to a number of serious health concerns, like asthma, cancer, and endocrine disruption. But because PFAS are also often used to achieve textile enhancement properties (wrinkle-resistance, water-repellant, quick-drying), they can be found in some natural materials like non-organic cotton as well. Which is why choosing certified organic fabrics that have been cleared for PFAS use is so important.

What are the benefits of organic and natural fiber pajamas?

First, let’s talk breathability. Natural fibers like organic cotton, linen, or bamboo allow air to circulate around your body, which helps regulate temperature as you sleep. That means less waking up in a sweaty tangle of sheets and more uninterrupted, cozy rest. Unlike synthetic fabrics, which can trap heat and moisture, natural materials keep things fresh and dry — even on warm nights.

Then there’s the weight and feel. Natural fiber pajamas often have a softer, more luxurious drape that gets better with each wash. Whether you like crisp and cool or warm and plush, you can find a natural fabric to match your preference — and they won’t weigh you down or cling like synthetic blends often do.

Durability is another plus. While fast fashion sleepwear can pill or stretch out quickly, high-quality organic PJs tend to last longer and hold their shape. Because they’re made without harsh chemical treatments, the fibers stay strong without breaking down prematurely — saving you money and reducing waste.

And here’s the kicker: Many synthetic pajamas are treated with chemicals like PFAS (also known as “forever chemicals”) or flame retardants, which can act as endocrine disruptors and have been linked to hormone imbalance, fertility issues, and more. Organic sleepwear avoids these altogether, giving you peace of mind that you’re not absorbing hidden toxins night after night.

How to choose the best pajamas for yourself (and anyone you’re gifting!):

When it comes to choosing the best pajamas, it’s all about finding the perfect blend of comfort, seasonality, and personal style. Start by thinking about the time of year and where the lucky recipient lives — lightweight, breathable fabrics like organic cotton, linen, or bamboo are ideal for warmer climates, while cozy flannel or thermal cotton is perfect for cooler ones.

Next, consider the style: Some people love the effortless feel of a flowy nightgown, while others gravitate toward the structure and coverage of a matching pajama set. Think about what makes you feel most at ease as you unwind, and ask your loved ones about their own preferences. Fabric choice is key — natural, breathable materials like organic cotton, TENCEL™, and modal are soft on the skin and better for those with sensitivities.

Pay attention to the fit, too: Waistbands, buttons, and elastic should be secure but never restrictive. Bonus features like pockets, adjustable waists, or machine-washable designs can make all the difference in your bedtime routine.

And for those who care about sustainability, look for brands that use ethical production methods and carry certifications like GOTS or OEKO-TEX. The best pajamas are the ones that feel effortless, match your lifestyle, and help you ease into sleep in total comfort.

Our criteria & methodology:

The Good Trade team hand-picked sustainable brands with pajama offerings for this test — and I was sent the ten options below for review. I slept for multiple nights in each set, and made notes on fit and comfort (including breathability, softness of materials, and warmth). We update this list with new favorites when they meet the following criteria.

We tested 10 sustainable pajama brands to find the best in comfort, breathability, and style. Each set was worn for multiple nights and judged on softness, fit, warmth, and how well it could double as daywear.
  • SIZE-INCLUSIVE | We’ve included options that carry a large range of sizes so you can find the right fit for you.
  • SUSTAINABLE | All of the brands on this list use sustainable sourcing and manufacturing, including fair labor practices, to ensure your purchase is low-impact. Many of these brands have give-back programs, too.
  • ORGANIC & NONTOXIC | The brands on this list prioritize using certified organic, natural, and recycled materials that are never treated with harsh chemicals so they’re safe for you and the earth.
  • ECO-FRIENDLY | The brands on this list avoid synthetic materials — that can take forever to break down, emitting microplastics along to way — and over-production to reduce harm to the earth. We’ve noted brands that are carbon-neutral or have other eco-initiatives.

Price Range | $20 (sleep mask) – $170 (robe)

Quince is one of our all-time favorites for finding high-quality, luxury garments at affordable price points — so when it came time to size up for my daughter’s winter jammies, I knew just where to look. The Holiday Flannel Nightgowns were too cute to resist, made from 100% recycled polyester flannel with long sleeves and a sweet ruffled hem, I knew my daughter was going to love them on sight. As far as seasonal kids’ jammies go, these are about as ideal as they come: With a relaxed, generous cut, I know she will be able to comfortably wear them for at least two winters, plus the longer hemline and the button placard make them easily double as dresses and not just nightgowns. The sweet treats print is more holiday-themed, but the tartan is a classic, timeless look that would be at home in any family photo. For myself, I opted for a Quince classic: 100% Washable Silk Pajama Shorts and Tank in crimson. The set is downright luxury, lightweight and ultra-soft — a must for this perimenopausal woman and the occasional night sweats! The brand makes silk pajamas in various sleeve and pant lengths, so you can mix and match colorways to your heart’s content.

For the perfect affordable loungewear, look no further than Pact’s organic sleepwear. All Pact apparel is made with GOTS certified organic cotton in fair trade factories. And we’re big fans of Pact’s easygoing styles for everyone who loves sleeping in undies and basics (we see you!). I’ve had my eye on the Staycation Sleep Pant and Staycation Short Robe for a while because the one perk of WFH is making little cozy moments during stressful deadlines or meetings. (It’s not quite a staycation, but a girl can romanticize, right??) The brand did me one better and sent me the set along with the Cool Stretch Cropped Lounge Tank and Short set, and the Cool Stretch Lounge Jumpsuit which is basically everything my puttering-about-the-house dreams are made of. The one thing all of these pieces had in common is that they feel like your favorite, well-worn tee while looking structured and stylish. 10 out of 10 for this carbon-neutral brand for getting it exactly right.

3. MATE The Label

MATE the Label’s sleepwear pairs snuggles and sustainability, working solely with eco-friendly fabrics in downtown Los Angeles. Their sleepwear is made from 70% TENCEL™ Lyocell and 30% organic cotton, and it feels as effortlessly cool as their models make it look. I tried the Tencel Sleep Tank, Shorts, and Pant in Truffle, and I’ve already had to wash everything three or four times because I keep reaching for them again and again. The fit is kind of slinky and loose without making strange shapes or feeling bulky. Plus, sleeping in them is perfect for anyone who runs hot. I have gone from bed straight to the yoga mat to a dog walk multiple times, swapping out the bottoms for cut-offs if I needed to run to the store. The climate-neutral brand has also achieved a certified B Corp status (you can read more about their sustainability initiatives in their yearly impact report). While this brand is a bit pricier than I’d usually like, I can see that the cost-per-wear already pays for itself.

4. Boody

1% for the planet
B corp
Budget friendly
FSC
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified
Size inclusive
Vegan

Best For | Sensitive skin & cooling
Size Range | XS – XXL

Discounts Available | Boody’s biggest sale of the year is happening now for a limited time — get 30-60% off sitewide on their soft, bamboo essentials

Boody’s garments, including its sleepwear collection, are crafted from viscose derived from organically grown, nontoxic bamboo. This means I was expecting super-soft, highly breathable, and hypoallergenic fabrics that feel so good on the skin — and the brand delivered. I tested out the Goodnight Raglan Sleep Shirt and Shorts, and these were hands down the most cooling fabrics of the bunch. The material reminds me of a performance fabric, only without the PFAS! The top is definitely a heavy hitter imho, and can easily go from sleep to day wear to the gym. I got the set in a beautiful pale gray-blue called Dove, but I love all of Boody’s colorways, which are a mix of neutrals and muted pinks and greens. Lightweight, with a loose, elegant drape to the fit, these are big winners that I’ll reach for again and again.

5. This is J

Eco friendly packaging

Best For | Bold & colorful patterns
Size Range | XS – XXL

Discounts Available | Save up to 50% off on This is J’s Black Friday collection

Make way for This is J and its wide selection of stylish patterned loungewear and sleepwear for the whole family. They have so many styles and prints it was actually kind of hard to choose! I ended up with the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant in stripes, which is definitely on the mellower side of their options (but more in line with my closet!). If you don’t know about bamboo fabrics, here’s the deal: Bamboo is soft. Soft, drapey, and cooling. It reminds me of performance fabrics — only without the PFAS ruining the party. Whether you’re on the hunt for sustainably made PJs, robes, or even maternity wear, there’s something at this brand for everyone. Each garment is handmade thoughtfully in Canada using high-quality bamboo viscose which is moisture-wicking and soft to the touch. Everything is machine washable and dryer friendly, so these beautiful patterns will remain bold and won’t pill as you live in them!

Under The Canopy’s sleepwear collection is luxe, buttery soft, and’ll have you snoozing in serene comfort all night long. When I put on the Organic Tapered Jogger, Organic Swing Tank, and Organic Short Robe I truly couldn’t believe the quality of these pieces at their price point. Everything is cozy and warm, with a structure that looks and feels well-made. The relaxed fit with no tags is especially clutch for anyone sensitive to that sort of thing. These pieces are all available in complementary colorways so you can easily go monochrome or mix and match for a look that feels like wearing sweats but looks like a fancy lady about to have tea on her vacation veranda. Under a…canopy, perhaps?

I bought my mom a robe and nightgown set from Coyuchi years ago and I’ve been itching for my own ever since. Their sleepwear is just exactly what I’m always longing for as a comfort-seeking minimalist. I tried the Isla Organic Cotton Nightgown and Isla Organic Cotton Robe in surf chambray, and they are just as gorgeous in person as they are online. There is something timelessly romantic about this set — it feels ideal for a summer weekend morning spent making pancakes and then eating them in the garden. The brand’s breathable organic cotton pajamas are GOTS and MADE SAFE certified, and sewn in a factory that recycles 98 percent of its wastewater for the ultimate sustainable snooze. Plus, Coyuchi makes organic cotton bedding so you can upgrade your whole sleep routine however you please. Designed in Los Angeles from a desire to create organic sleepwear that won’t harm you (no chemical washes, microplastics, or pesticides here!) — and could actually offer health benefits, Clementine Sleepwear is a true standout when it comes to holistic luxury. The 100% organic mulberry silk and nontoxic dyes never go through stripping chemical washes, leaving them rich in natural amino proteins that help heal skin and restore hair. Anyone prone to breakouts, rashes, or unruly bedhead will particularly love these smooth, soft products. I tried the Organic Silk T-Shirt Dress in pearl white (which has a chic, oversized fit and felt like a dream), and the Organic Silver Ion Silk Sleep Mask which is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal, and aids in accelerated healing and tissue regeneration — ideal for anti-aging benefits and treating scar tissue. Both come in their own storage box made of FSC certified and recyclable materials. The boxes not only protect the silk, but opening them to get out the sleep mask each night made me feel especially fancy.

What are the relevant certifications for organic PJs?

When shopping for organic pajamas, certifications are your best friend. They help ensure that the materials used are grown and processed without harmful chemicals, that ethical labor practices are followed, and that the finished garment is safe for you and the planet. Since terms like “natural” or “eco-friendly” aren’t regulated, looking for official certifications is the most reliable way to verify a product’s sustainability claims.

Here are some of the most relevant certifications to look for when buying organic PJs:

  • Fair Trade Certified: While not specific to organic content, this certification guarantees that workers involved in the garment’s production are paid fairly and work under safe conditions. It’s a great complement to organic certifications.
  • Certified Organic by USDA or similar national bodies: This ensures the raw cotton or fiber used in the pajamas was grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.
  • GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): The gold standard for organic textiles. GOTS ensures that the entire production process—from growing the cotton to dyeing and sewing the garment—meets strict environmental and social criteria. It also prohibits the use of toxic dyes, heavy metals, and GMOs.
  • OEKO-TEX® Standard 100: This certification tests for harmful substances in textiles. Even if a product isn’t made from organic fibers, OEKO-TEX certification means it’s been independently verified to be free of chemicals known to be harmful to human health.
  • MADE SAFE®: A newer but growing certification that screens products for toxic chemicals and pollutants that could impact human health and the environment. A “Made Safe” label on your pajamas means peace of mind.

I wore these organic, nontoxic 100% cotton sweatpants and sets everywhere, from lounging at home to the farmers’ market — these are my favorites, with notes from wear.

Saying yes to the loungewear trend is easier than ever, especially as the days grow shorter and the weather gets cooler. So it’s no surprise that we’ve got our eyes on snuggly sweatshirts and sweatpants for ourselves and our loved ones this holiday season. (Because who wouldn’t want to be MORE cozy and comfortable?)

These brands combine style and comfort with sustainable fabrics and ethical production practices. Many use organic, recycled, or responsibly sourced materials, and some offer inclusive sizing and collections for all genders and ages. That means you can wrap up your parents, partners, and loved ones in quality sweats that have less eco-impact and are perfect for lounging.

Why consider organic cotton sweatpants and sweatsuits?

Organic cotton is better for both our health and the environment compared to conventional cotton, and the difference goes far beyond comfort. Because organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or harsh chemicals, it protects not only the planet but also our skin, which is our body’s largest organ. Conventional cotton is one of the most chemically treated crops in the world, and residues from these treatments can linger in fabrics, potentially irritating sensitive skin or triggering allergies. For those with eczema, chemical sensitivities, or anyone simply trying to reduce their toxic load, organic cotton offers a safer, gentler alternative.

On a larger scale, organic farming practices promote healthier soil and ecosystems by nurturing biodiversity and avoiding the runoff pollution that conventional cotton often causes. These methods also use significantly less water and energy, making them better for the environment and for the communities that depend on these resources. Many organic cotton brands further prioritize ethical production, ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions for the workers behind each garment.

When it comes to everyday wear, organic sweatpants and loungewear also tend to be softer and more breathable. And because these brands often emphasize craftsmanship and sustainable production, the garments are generally higher quality and longer lasting, too. Choosing organic cotton isn’t just a style decision; it’s a holistic one, supporting healthier people, healthier farms, and a healthier planet.

Our criteria and methodology:

I personally tested each of the brands on this list, making notes about the fabric’s comfort (no itchy tags!), breathability, and how well it holds up when worn out and about. I’ve also noted below the brand’s certifications, ensuring they’re safe for you and the environment. We update this list regularly with our emerging favorites that meet the following criteria:

  • ORGANIC | All of the brands below use organic cotton that is super soft and never treated with harmful chemicals, and have the certifications to back this up.
  • SUSTAINABLE | Each brand is committed to various sustainability initiatives to ensure low impact and ethical production practices. Again, I’ve noted the certifications that ensure this.
  • COMFORT | I’ve tested these from my couch, bed, and WFH desk, noting their breathability, softness, cut, and other elements that make them easy for all-day wear.
  • STYLE | Many of the brands below are polished enough for errand runs, school pickups, and airport fits.

If you’re looking to upgrade your full WFH look, don’t forget house shoes and slippers—oh, and a robe for those extra chilly days.

It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with MATE the Label (read my full review here). I have been living in the half-zip fleece since summer, and I can confidently say it’s continued to be my go-to sweater into fall. Each piece in Mate‘s sweatsuit collection is ethically made in Los Angeles, where it’s cut, sewn, and packaged with a minimal carbon footprint. Even better, these stylish and sustainable loungewear staples are made from organic cotton and then dyed with non-toxic, low-impact dyes. As for sweats, I love the wide-leg pants, especially on my shorter legs. They fit just at my ankles and the pockets are so deep and cozy!

2. Kotn

If you’re seeking the best in cotton quality and searching for a brand that prioritizes ethics and sustainability, then you’ll love Kotn for its collection of premium basics made for all genders. This brand partners directly with family-run farms in Egypt and Portugal, where sweats are sewn using cotton-based fabrics and where everyone — from the farmers to the local weavers — earns a fair and living wage. I have been living in Kotn’s Essential Sweatpant since I received it (in minimal paper packaging, to boot). The racing green color is so flattering, and I love how these bunch perfectly at my ankles. They remind me of something I’d have worn in high school in the 2000s (in the very best way)!

Crafted from 100% organic cotton, the brand boats a lot of fun and current styles, like wide-leg pants and terry sweats for a vintage look. Organic Basics also prioritizes ethical production and uses only recycled, recyclable, and organic materials in their clothing for minimal waste and impact. I tried two styles from the brand: The True Knit Wide Leg and the Weekend Straight Leg Sweats. Both are so cozy, and I love the wide-leg fit for comfort. I will note the True Knit pants are a bit long for my shorter legs (I’m 5’3″), but I could see myself dressing them up with boots for a cozy fall lounge look. The cropped zip-up also has a hood (love!), making it extra cozy for lounge days, napping, or wearing on a plane. Reformation uses 100% organically grown cotton and the Los Angeles-based brand creates products only from sustainable and upcycled materials in a fair wage environment.

It has that soft waffle-texture knit on the outside for a cozy look, and the wide leg drapes just right to create a casual yet polished silhouette. I appreciate that these “sweats” are ankle-length, so they work equally well with flats or a low heel, and the slash pockets add a little practical touch without disrupting the clean line. It’s become one of those pants I reach for when I want something cozy but refined enough to stand out.

I recently tried the brand’s compression leggings, which are made using a clean and regenerative fabric, and so I knew I had to try out the organic cotton sweatpant set for fall. It’s made with GOTS certified organic, ultra-soft cotton fleece with a cozy brushed interior and produced in a windmill-powered, Fair Trade Certified™ facility. It’s unisex, too, and the Ivy color is perfect for a comfy streetwear look you can pair with sneakers.

8. Harvest & Mill

American made
Budget friendly

Recycled materials
Vegan

Best For | US-grown organic cotton joggers
Price Range | $118
Size Range | S–XL

Is it possible to fall in love with a pair of sweatpants? Because Harvest & Mill‘s joggers are seriously dreamy. And it’s no surprise either, since the American-made apparel uses only USA-grown organic cotton with low-impact and natural dyes. The jogger-style sweatpants are incredibly soft and airy, making them perfect for transition seasons and warmer fall or spring days. I love how tailored these fit, so I can easily dress them up or down, too. If I had to pick a pair of sweatpants that are perfect for vacation or travel days, these would be the ones.

9. Quince

Budget friendly
Eco friendly packaging
Natural materials

Best For | Fleece joggers
Price Range | $35
Size Range | XS–XL

Discounts Available | Quince is kicking off Black Friday deals, offering up to 30% off select items — a rare chance to snag their high-quality essentials at even better prices

While not organic cotton, Quince’s fleece joggers are so soft that we had to include them on the list! They are made using GRS-certified poly yarn (68% Tencel™ modal, 27% recycled polyester, 5% spandex), which diverts plastics from the ocean and landfill, and we love how budget-friendly they are. Quince also uses eco-friendly dyes for reduced water consumption. I tried these in heather grey for sweatpants that are natural enough to dress up or down. I love that they are fitted enough that I can wear them for errands and not feel like I’m wearing pajamas, but cozy enough that I can lounge in them (or even sleep in them!). The pockets are nice and deep, too, which is a huge perk on my list.

The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

I’ve sweated it out in organic and nontoxic workout clothes for years — these are the best leggings and yoga pants for natural materials, comfort, and ethics across a range of price points.

Leggings are our all-day comfort clothing staple, whether we’re on Zoom meetings (business up top, cozy down low), watching our favorite Netflix series, or staying grounded and focused with a living room flow. We especially love organic cotton yoga leggings made with minimal spandex or elastane (to help retain stretchiness and durability!) and for their nontoxic properties that are free of harmful chemical treatments like PFAS.

Why consider organic cotton leggings?

We recommend organic leggings for their sustainability, environmental, and ethical features. Organic materials such as organic cotton support sustainable agriculture as they are farmed using methods that have minimal impact on our ecosystems, compared to conventional fabrics. This includes crop rotation practices which help improve soil health and water conservation practices, to help prevent water waste. Organic cotton is also biodegradable, which helps fight pollution! Organic cotton producers also support socially responsible labor practices, meaning each purchase supports the ethical and fair treatment of garment workers.

It’s also important to note that because leggings are in such close contact with our skin, going for an organic fabric with fewer chemicals can prevent skin irritations. While some spandex or elastane is essential for retaining stretchiness and durability (prevents sagging waistbands and stiffness!), our favorites strike a balance between being made primarily with organic cotton and as little elastane or spandex as possible. Organic textiles are also free of GMOs and organic cotton in particular is free of the harmful chemical PFAS, which is linked to period irregularities, ovarian disorders, high blood pressure, and fertility concerns. Be sure to look out for the GOTS certification on your next pair of organic cotton leggings to ensure the product adheres to strict environmental and ethical criteria.

Are there any downsides to organic cotton workout clothes?

Organic cotton leggings and yoga pants are ideal for gentle exercise and daily movement. Because cotton absorbs moisture instead of wicking it away, they’re not designed for high intensity workouts or performance. It’s also important to note that the higher the percentage of organic cotton fabric to elastane or spandex, the less flexible the pair will be, which can be restrictive when participating in high-intensity training. When exercising, each of the pairs below work well for low-sweat workouts or in cooler climates.

Our criteria:

I’ve personally tested each of the following leggings, assessing the fabric comfort, quality, texture, opacity, as well as stretch, movement, and thickness. For each brand, I made sure it passed the squat test and also tested its moisture-wicking capabilities. The brands below represent the best quality pieces that feel good and look good for workout sessions, natural materials, comfort, and leisure moments alike. We update this list regularly with our emerging favorites that meet the following criteria.

  • ORGANIC & NONTOXIC | The brands below carry leggings that are nontoxic and PFAS-free. These options are all safe, breathable, and comfortable for anything from lounging around to the most intense workout.
  • COMFORT | Each pair of leggings has been editor-tested and approved at least an 8 out of 10 on the comfort scale! No pulling, pinching, or sagging.
  • ETHICS | Each brand is committed to ethical production and various sustainability initiatives. We’ve included details on sustainability certifications so you can be sure you’re supporting thoughtful business.

You’ll be reaching for these organic cotton leggings day in and day out. Snag yourself a pair (or two!) and thank us later! For more organic and nontoxic activewear, our guides on organic sports bras, sustainable running shoes, organic cotton and bamboo socks, compression leggings, and eco-friendly yoga mats will have you geared up and ready to seize your workout in comfort and style.

They make all of their own products in-house to ensure that their standards and values are fully executed.

Our Editor’s Review | After cycling through my haul of organic cotton leggings I keep coming back to the pair from Groceries. The high-waist makes me feel held and secure, the weight of the fabric is calming, and even the tag sewn into the back feels high-end and high-quality. For being on the heavier side weight-wise, they stretch well and mold perfectly to my body. Our Editor’s Review | This set never makes it into my dresser because I always pull it straight out of the wash and wear it until it needs to go back into the hamper again. The shorts are substantial enough to wear out, but comfortable enough to sleep, lounge, exercise and run errands in. I’ve dubbed this set as my new uniform, even though it’s basically underwear.

While these leggings aren’t made of purely cotton, we’ve included them on this list for their nontoxic benefits! Bamboo is a naturally organic plant and requires no pesticides, insecticides, or fertilizers to grow, plus it consumes less water than cotton and produces more oxygen than trees. Those are some benefits we can stand behind! Choose between full-length, cropped, and 3/4 length options.

Our Editor’s Review | Boody’s bamboo leggings feel light, stay cool, and make me want to move! I reach for these ahead of weightlifting, a long hike, or when temps are higher. These can be slightly see-through when doing deep stretches, so keep this in mind if you’re headed to yoga.

Their cotton leggings also speak for themselves – made with substantial double-knit fabric, earth-friendly dyes, and a cling-free fit.

Our Editor’s Review | Fair Indigo’s leggings feel like a cross between my favorite leggings and my bamboo joggers. They’re lightweight, have a looser fit, and the pima cotton is noticeably softer and silkier than regular organic cotton. These are the ones I love to slip into at night before drifting off to sleep.

The Reprise Aspen Leggings are made with a soft plant-based fabric that is compressive but still safe for your health. While these aren’t organic cotton, they are incredibly safe for your skin and the planet! Instead of plastic bottles, the NYC-based brand uses a clean and regenerative fabric composed of 93% TENCEL Lyocell and 7% Spandex. They are opaque and high-rise — our editor who tested them herself expressed feeling held and sleek while wearing them!

Our Editor’s Review | Reprise has officially replaced my lululemons, and to say I’m thrilled is an understatement! PFAS free high-performing athletic wear has been on my to-do list of swaps, and the only reason I’ve put them lower on the list is because they’re not organic cotton.

10. Pansy

American made
Eco friendly packaging
Natural materials
Size inclusive
Small business
Woman owned

Materials | 100% organic USA-grown cotton
Sizes | XS – 5XL
Price | $72
Best For | Retro fit & feel
See-Through Rating | Opaque
Weight | Heavyweight

Pansy’s spandex-free leggings are a lounging and light workout staple. 100% USA-grown organic Pansy cotton (hence the name!) is the foundational fabric of all of the brand’s comfy garments. This special cotton is grown in Texas without any conventional chemicals and is then shipped off to North Carolina where it’s spun and knit into Pansy’s signature cotton leggings. These high-waisted gems have us nostalgic for that classic ‘80s fit and feel. Trust us, you won’t want to take these off!

Our Editor’s Review | Pansy’s leggings feel substantial, grounding and cozy. The ribbed fabric is a heavier-weight than most of the other pairs I’ve tried, and these are the ones I reach for when I’m relaxing at home on the weekends or when I wake up in the morning and the air is cool. These don’t have much give, which is important to keep in mind if you’re hoping to use them for exercise. Ultimately though, if Taylor Swift’s album Red were a pair of leggings, it would be Pansy’s.

Our editors have found and reviewed the best slip dresses made by sustainable brands — these are our top picks.

Tight-fitting clothes in 90-degree weather? No, thanks — we can feel the sweat pooling already.

We’re all about easy, breezy basics this summer, like slip dresses that can be quickly dressed up or down with a quick change of shoes, accessories, or layers. We’ve narrowed down our favorites to the nine brands below, designed with lightweight and breathable fabrics like linen and silk — which are responsibly sourced, to boot. Don’t just survive the heat this summer, thrive in style. 😎

Our criteria:

  • ETHICAL PRACTICES | These brands adhere to ethical and responsible labor practices, ensuring their employees receive fair wages and have safe working environments. We’ve also included brands that give back to their communities and prioritize size inclusivity in their offerings.
  • ECO-FRIENDLY/SUSTAINABLE | Each of these brands practices sustainability throughout their manufacturing process, including using all natural and organic materials, low-impact processes, and recycled/upcycled materials where possible.
  • INCLUSIVE PRICES + SIZING | We get that sustainable fashion can be expensive, which is why we’ve looked for affordable brands that value inclusive sizing for customers.

Don’t miss sustainable sandals or summer hats to complete your wardrobe.

We’ve researched our favorite sustainable jewelry brands for the best amethyst jewelry pieces—these are our top picks for their fairly sourced materials and timeless design.

February’s birthstone is the amethyst, the purple-hued quartz crystal famous for its healing properties, namely for headaches, fatigue, and anxiety. The name itself comes from the Greek “amethystos,” which means “remedy for drunkenness,” and might be why it has long been associated with Bacchus, the God of wine. Once rare enough to only be available to royalty, the stone is now more common, though still impressive with a dramatic color range of pale lilac to deep eggplant.

What does amethyst symbolize?

Amethyst has been attributed with various symbolic meanings throughout history. It’s often seen as a stone of protection, purification, and tranquility. Its calming energy is believed to promote emotional balance and inner peace, which is great for use during meditation and spiritual practices! It’s also linked to wisdom, intuition, and clarity of mind, helping to boost decision-making. Moreover, amethyst has been connected to physical healing and is believed to alleviate stress, insomnia, and headaches, while also stimulating the immune system. Gifting this birthstone or acquiring one for yourself can emphasize inner spirituality, healing, and inner harmony, making it a gift to be cherished by all our February babes.

Our team has reviewed hundreds of sustainable jewelry brands, and we’ve selected our favorite amethyst birthstone necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings from the brands below based on eco-friendly production practices, fairly sourced materials, and quality design.

So go on, treat yourself (or your favorite February birthday pal!) to one of these beauties!

And if you’re on the hunt for a different gemstone, we’ve got you covered with our guides for our top aquamarine, emerald, and garnet jewelry pieces!

The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

Our editors have lived in sustainable fashion for over a decade — these are our favorite one-pieces that are comfortable, size-inclusive, and good for you and the earth.

If you prefer a one-piece swimsuit to a two-piece, you’re in luck — the swimwear market has so many comfortable, flattering one-pieces with as much (or as little) coverage as you’d like. You just have to know where to find them.

So we’ve rounded up some of our favorite one-piece swimsuits below, all of which are from brands that prioritize sustainability.

Shopping for a sustainable swimsuit can be difficult. Because they need to be stretchy, compressive, and quick-drying, bathing suits can’t really be made of natural materials like cotton or linen. They’ve got to be synthetic.

Why consider sustainable swimwear?

That’s why we always look for recycled synthetic materials when shopping for swimwear. Thankfully, these days there are plenty of fantastic brands making swimwear out of recycled nylon or polyester fabrics, so we can reduce our consumption footprint by wearing swimwear made of repurposed, rather than virgin, material.

Some of the brands below use recycled fibers from old synthetic materials, and others have a more direct hand in taking waste like plastic water bottles and nylon fishing nets and turning them into swimwear. Others focus on crafting with high-quality fabric that’s resistant to pilling, fading, and snagging — because whenever we do purchase synthetic materials, we want to be certain we’ll use the garment for years and years to come.

Our criteria:

Our team has worn and researched dozens of sustainable brands, and scoured thousands of online reviews to select our top picks for thoughtfully made swimwear. We regularly update this list with new favorites that meet the below criteria:

  • SUSTAINABLE | Each of these swimwear brands prioritizes sustainable fabrics in their swimwear, including recycled and plant-based materials.
  • SIZE INCLUSIVE | We’ve included a variety of sustainable swimwear brands offering a wide range of sizes, ranging from XXS–6X.
  • AFFORDABLE | Sustainable clothing can get expensive! That’s why we’ve done the research and have made sure to include our favorite eco-friendly lines that offer high-quality and sustainable swimwear at affordable prices.
  • ETHICS | These swimwear brands produce their one-pieces using ethical, fair, and safe manufacturing practices, with many pieces made in the USA.

For more warm weather staples, take a look at our favorite natural sunscreens, sustainable sunnies, and sustainable sandals, too!

1. Summersalt

Recycled materials
Size inclusive
Woman owned

Best For | Color-blocked swimsuits
Sustainable materials | Fabric made of 78% recycled polyamide
Prices starting at | $95

Summersalt specializes in swimwear for “life beyond the lounge chair,” creating wearable, high-quality styles that are super comfy to move around in. Besides working with responsible manufacturing partners to make sure they’re crafting swimwear that’ll last you for years, Summersalt also uses a 78% recycled polyamide fabric in all of its swimwear. Some of their adorably timeless one-piece styles include their ruffle oasis style with a square neckline, ruffled straps, and built-in soft cups. We also love their best-selling sidestroke suit, which has a one-shoulder design, an open back, and comes in plenty of different color block patterns. Some of their suits have long torso options, and their sizing goes up to size 24.

Customer Review | “Very comfortable swimsuit. The colors are bright, the material is perfect to swim or lounge in. I would buy another. Love it!” – Michelle (Read more reviews.)

All of Patagonia’s swimwear is designed to be comfy and timeless, and is made in Fair Trade factories using recycled nylon and recycled polyester. And Patagonia is one of the most sustainable companies out there — they’re a B Corp and a member of 1% for the Planet to boot.

Customer Review | “I think Patagonia finally nailed it for a one-piece swimsuit. The cut is flattering but cheeky and the material is super silky and fast drying. No, there aren’t any cups or adjustable straps but that isn’t a deal breaker for me.” – Melissa (Read more reviews.)

3. Youswim

Made in the UK
OEKO-TEX® certified
Size inclusive

Best For | Inclusive sizing
Sustainable materials | Responsible dying practices, European-sourced nylon
Prices starting at | $159

Youswim only makes swimsuits in two sizes — that’s right, just two — but they’re still one of the most size-inclusive brands on this list. That’s because their two sizes are made of a super stretchy Versoform™ crinkle fabric that accommodates a dozen traditional sizes each. “Stretch I” accommodates sizes 2 through 12, and “Stretch II” fits sizes 14 through 24, meaning the suits are designed to last you summer after summer, whether or not your body changes. They make three simple one-piece suits — the aplomb suit with a square neckline, the poise suit with adjustable spaghetti straps, and the Eva suit with a V-neck, supportive straps, and a scoop back. All the one-pieces have medium coverage on the bottom and come in a handful of neutral and neutral-adjacent colors. And they’re all made in the UK of European-sourced premium nylon and dyed at responsible UK facilities.

Customer Review | “Definitely worth the hype and the price. Fits incredibly well and comfortably. Doesn’t cut in anywhere and feels super lightweight on the body. Great coverage on the bum, didn’t have to readjust once!! I have always struggled to find one-pieces that fit me in length as I’m fairly tall, and this one is amazing 🤩. 100% recommend this brand, I will be buying more.” – Emma W. (Read more reviews.)

The certified B Corp was founded over 10 years ago with the mission of creating underwear that “anybody could feel comfortable in, inclusive of all sizes and gender expressions.”

Grab a leather moto. Interviewing for a new role? Time to bring out that jacket blazer. And of course, when we’re out on a cool Sunday morning stroll, we need a light rain jacket or shacket (shirt jacket) to stay warm.

Most coats are made from a blend of cotton, polyester, or leather, but those aren’t always the most eco-friendly or even cruelty-free. We’ve sourced seven brands below making stylish, sustainable men’s jackets to add to your wardrobe—each made with either recycled, organic, or Leather Working Group certified materials. 🧥

1. Patagonia

1% for the planet
B corp
Fair trade
Natural materials
Recycled materials

Best For | Rain & outdoor jackets
Size Range | XXS–3X
Price Range
| $109–$749

A leader in both adventure gear and sustainability, Patagonia is by far our top go-to for sustainable men’s jackets. From raincoats to puffer hoodies to insulated vests, there are nearly 50 designs to choose from—all available in a variety of colors and sizes. And because Patagonia’s all about Mother Earth, the team’s dedication to sustainability is unparalleled; the manufacturing process is fully Fair Trade certified, materials include organic cotton and recycled fishing nets, and a percentage of all proceeds support environmental initiatives. Since the prices can be a bit steep for certain styles, check out Patagonia’s secondhand collection, Worn Wear, for deeper discounts. You’ll effortlessly brave the weather and look good doing it.

2. Outerknown

Fair trade
Natural materials
Recycled materials

Best For | Shackets
Size Range | S–XXL
Price Range
| $198–$298

Outerknown touts itself as one of the first brands founded on a “total commitment to sustainability,” and that’s evident in its business practices. For example, leveraging recycled materials, partnering with Fair Trade certified factories, and setting up a secondhand shop are just some of the steps the team takes to be as eco-friendly as possible. The outerwear here—a mix of jackets, puffers, hoodies, and shackets—is also exceptionally made. The pieces are durable, designed to last, and versatile enough to work in every kind of environment. And for those of you who love having a transitional layer through the seasons, the shackets are simultaneously lightweight and warm. Throw a heavier coat on top if needed, or take it off as the day warms up—it’s sure to be a staple in your style.

3. Tentree

B corp
Climate neutral
Natural materials
Plant trees
Recycled materials
Small business

Best For | Puffers & hybrid jackets
Size Range | S–XXL
Price Range
| $98–$268

Tentree, a certified B Corp that plants trees with every purchase, has planted 100 million trees since its inception. 🤯👏 Not only is the brand supporting the environment through its initiatives, but the sustainability practices are impressive, too: Pieces here are climate-neutral and sewn only with natural and recycled materials. There are various styles of men’s jackets here, but our favorites are the puffers, hybrids, and specifically, the padded bomber jacket (because swoon). They’re all water-resistant, insulated with vegan fibers, and warm enough to withstand temps as low as 20 degrees F. While these are made to last, Tentree also touts a take-back program that repurposes and recycles your old clothing—minimal impact and maximum wear.

4. Quince

Budget friendly
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified
Recycled materials

Best For | Affordable staples
Size Range | S–XXL
Price Range
| $50–$250

No matter what kind of jacket you’re looking for, Quince has you covered (literally). Stock up on denim jackets, raincoats, linen shackets, leather bombers, and more—with prices starting at just under $50. Quince is able to sell these affordable staples because it’s a direct-to-consumer brand without any middlemen or sky-high markups. But rest assured that the brand only partners with factories offering fair and safe working conditions and prioritizes natural materials. While the team doesn’t have a brick-and-mortar store for try-ons (part of how they’re able to keep prices low), there is a 365-day return policy so you can take your time to decide if their jackets are right for you. The racer jacket and the double-brushed jacket are two of our top picks because they go with…well, everything.

5. Buck Mason

American made
Natural materials
Recycled materials

Best For | Formal jackets
Size Range | XS–XXL
Price Range
| $178–$698

When we think of a brand like Buck Mason, we envision timeless, long-lasting, and versatile pieces that are well worth the investment. The same can be said for its two dozen jackets and coats—every single one is designed for an elevated, curated look. Take the Storm Stopped Bomber Jacket; it’s a beautiful mushroom green layer you can wear all year round, rain or shine (it’s weatherproof!). Or check out the Ridge Wool Upland Jacket that’s got a vintage feel to it, but finished with woolen twill, corozo buttons, and metal logo snaps. Buck Mason offers free US shipping over $100 and 365-day returns, so you can purchase when the price is right and hold onto it until the season calls for extra layers.

6. Taylor Stitch

Natural materials
Plastic/Pfas free
Recycled materials

Best For | Lifetime repair & replace guarantee
Size Range | XS–XXL
Price Range
| $158–$898

When we spend our hard-earned dollars, we want to get the most bang for our buck. And that’s why we love Taylor Stitch’s “lifetime repair and replace guarantee” for its apparel. Because while the pieces here aren’t exactly cheap, you can rest assured that you’ll enjoy them over a lifetime. Taylor Stitch also manufactures its jackets in small batches and uses deadstock and organic fabrics when possible, so it’s possible that the jacket you choose may only be one of a handful around the globe. The jackets are a great mix of rugged and modern, finished with thoughtful details like pen sleeves, hand-warmer pockets, and reinforced stitching. We get why the team says everything here is “responsibly built for the long haul.”

7. Levi’s Secondhand

Budget friendly
GOTS certified
Natural materials
Size inclusive

Best For | Secondhand jackets
Size Range | XS–3XL
Price Range
| $32–$210

Did you know the most famous denim brand in the world, Levi’s, has a secondhand shop? There you’ll find dozens of gently used denim jackets and truckers that you can snag for a fraction of the retail price; for example, we’re seeing prices start at just $32. You can filter by size, condition, fit, or price—and double check that the measurements are correct since sizing has evolved over the years. While you do have to wait until your preferred style and size are simultaneously in stock, it’s a hidden gem that’s worth checking throughout the season. Who knows, you may be able to find two distinct styles here that you can rock for years to come for the price of one elsewhere.

We’ve lived in and written about sustainable clothing for the past decade — these are our favorite sustainable scarves for colder seasons.

Cozy season is finally upon us — and we are ready to snuggle up in our softest, most comfortable clothes. And whether that’s to sit in front of a burning fireplace or out and about at holiday markets or just for a Sunday stroll with our pups, we’ll need layers like scarves to keep us warm.

We’ve found seven brands producing scarves as sustainably and ethically as possible; the materials are recycled or naturally sourced (cruelty free), and then sewn or woven together in fair working conditions around the globe. Plus, they’re specifically designed to last for the long haul.

Why invest in a sustainable scarf?

Investing in a sustainable scarf is a small but impactful way to support the planet while elevating your style. Unlike fast fashion alternatives, sustainable scarves are made with eco-friendly materials like organic cotton, recycled fabrics, or ethically sourced wool, ensuring minimal harm to the environment. They’re often crafted by skilled artisans under fair working conditions, so your purchase supports ethical labor practices too. Plus, these scarves tend to be higher quality, meaning they last longer and feel softer against your skin. So why not wrap yourself in something that looks good, feels great, and makes a difference?

Our criteria:

We’ve lived in sustainable outerwear year after year. Below, we’ve compiled our favorite scarves made using ethical and sustainable practices and eco-friendly and responsibly sourced materials. We regularly add emerging favorites that meet our criteria.

  • SUSTAINABLE | The scarf brands on this list all have certifications that ensure they’re using sustainable sourcing to ensure they have a low impact. These offerings are high-quality, too, so they’ll stand the test of time — and what’s more sustainable than that?
  • ETHICAL | We’ve prioritized brands that use thoughtful, ethical production and labor practices to protect you and the workers who craft the scarves.
  • ECO-FRIENDLY | The scarves on this list are made by brands that avoid treating fabrics with harsh and harmful chemicals throughout the sourcing and production, and they’re conscious of the environmental impact of their factories.
  • GIVE BACK | Many brands on this list give back to their local communities through various initiatives.

Bundle up in your favorite sustainable coat this winter, toss on one of the scarves below, pair with some sustainable boots, and enjoy the cooler temps. 🧣

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of walking down a city sidewalk in a pair of knee-high boots, crunching fall leaves under your feet, and feeling like the baddest version of yourself. Knee-high boots are the versatile wardrobe must-have that you may have forgotten about in the swirl of the changing seasons. They can be worn with knitted dresses, mini skirts, long belted sweaters, tucked into jeans…you name it. We especially love seeing a little bit of white sock peeking out from over the edge, somehow communicating both sensible warmth and devil-may-care insouciance. Our lineup features boots made from vegan materials and thoughtfully sourced leather, empowering you to pick your pleasure based on your values.

Sustainably designed in Barcelona and hand-crafted by local artisans in Alicante, ALOHAS knee-high boots are made to last a lifetime. Alejandro Porras founded ALOHAS in 2015 in response to the growing problem of overproduction in the fashion industry. Their solution? The brand uses a hybrid sales model with in-stock options and on-demand shoes based upon pre-orders, cutting down on excess in an eco-conscious move that results in a wide range of available styles since products don’t have to sit on a shelf to be available. You can find ALOHAS at Madewell, Urban Outfitters, and Free People to name just a few retailers that carry this gorgeous line of boots.

2. VIVAIA

VIVAIA makes its insoles from the herb Artemisia Argyi, offering a mold-free, cushioned double-arch support for your tired feet. Every boot is made to be both hand and machine-washable, helping ensure a lifetime’s worth of comfy boot-wearing fun.

3. Bhava

You can even purchase boot uppers to turn any of your ankle boots into knee-high without having to purchase an entirely new boot — yet another innovative and sustainable move. OEKO-TEX® certified
Recycled materials

Best For | Limited-edition drops
Ethics | 100% chrome-free cow leather

Reformation has made a commitment to losing their virginity — we’re referring to their circularity commitment to get rid of all virgin materials, become Climate Positive, and make everything out of recycled, regenerative, or renewable materials by 2025. Beginning with just one storefront in L.A. in 2009, Ref eventually built their own factory in L.A. and have expanded to partner with sustainable factories around the world. Every week, the brand puts out a limited-edition collection with minimal quantities of each new product, only making more if orders come in and direct data proves the need. Unlike the chrome-tanned leather of 90% of the world, a human carcinogen known to produce hazardous waste, Reformation uses 100% chrome-free leather tanned in Leather Working Group gold and silver audited tanneries.

The company prioritizes materials that follow the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare guidelines and refuse to use leather or suede from animals raised for their hides. Fun Fact: Everlane publishes what it costs to make each of their products so you know exactly what goes into their products and what markup you’re paying to the brand.
