Hi there! We had one editor review all these products for consistency, but we’ll keep your feedback in mind for future updates to this piece — we’ll loop in one of our curly haired editors for curl-specific products! Thank you for reading Xx – Emily

These are for curly hair and she has straight hair. Thankfully, I didn’t waste my time reading past the first product! Save yourself time.

Thank you for your comment! We’ll continue to research this as we update our recommendations — and reach out to the brands that contain this ingredient and push for alternatives. For safety concerns at this this time, Phenoxyethanol is rated as a 2-4 (1 being the safest) depending on dosage and form, specifically for concern of inhalation and respiratory issues. For use in solids and liquids, the ingredient has a much lower risk of any harm. Based on current scientific research from pub med, phenoxyethanol is not linked to cancer in humans and the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS), the FDA, and the U.S. Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) have concluded that phenoxyethanol is safe for use at concentrations up to 1%. Thank you for reading, and hope you find the best fit for you! – Emily

Hi there! You’re right, neem is a potent botanical and is not recommended for folks with sensitive skin. There are some anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties in neem (that have undergone initial research and safety studies), though, that can be helpful for managing dandruff. We advise folks to stay away from it if they have sensitive skin, known allergies, and to use it according to brand directions (and don’t ingest it!) Hope you find the right shampoo for you! – Emily

This is a synthetic sanitizer that caused so many allergic reactions when used in the pharmaceutical industry that it was banned. That’s how it ended up in cosmetics.

Hi there! Thank you for reading, and glad you found a fragrance-free option that might work for you. We try to avoid synthetic fragrances (and brands who aren’t transparent about the “fragrance” listed on their ingredients!), but there are also many cases where the product’s ingredients are naturally scented, especially if they come from natural sources. We also encourage readers to keep a close eye on any ingredients that do cause them irritation, as allergies and sensitivities are unique to the individual! Hopefully this helps, and we’ll continue to keep an eye out for fragrance-free options of all personal care products. – Emily

I am sure that the writer of this post is fully aware of the toxic and potentially toxic materials in regular shampoos on the market. Otherwise, there is no need to prepare this post. I am surprised by the “I’m a sucker for a good scent!” This drove me crazy. I can tell you: No scent is good for your health. As humans, we need ONLY air to survive. Anything that gives a scent will hurt your health. There is no scent that can be considered good. You care about the toxic materials in shampoos but at the same time say you love scents. Saying that is just like saying you are a vegetarian and at the same time eat beef steak each day. I do love your post and will try one of the products that you suggested: SEEN Shampoo, Fragrance Free. But for sake of your own health and the health of the readers, I sincerely hope that you can suggest ONLY products that are scent-free in the future. Again, let me repeat: No scent is good for your health! Please do trust me.

They are in fact toxic. Please review the YUKA app when writing stories about non – toxic products.
